Self-healing in Action

We’re offering a glimpse into how Cloud Elemental’s Self-healing solution can safeguard your organisation against the negative consequences of infrastructure failures. In the latter half of this article, we’ll be sharing some common scenarios where our innovative solution can rescue your business from expensive downtime – so stay tuned to learn how Self-healing can potentially benefit your organisation.

First of all, let’s explain what Self-healing is used for…

When it comes to large-scale enterprise applications, it is all too common for parts of your infrastructure to fail. Whether this is an individual part of the overall infrastructure system, or a specific service within an application, failures are an unfortunate reality of day-to-day computing, and can occur for any number of unpredictable reasons.

Despite how common they are, infrastructure failures always have negative consequences. The formula below shows that alongside gaining negative reputation amongst your customers and service users, server downtime is also proportional to overall financial loss.

As you can see, it is extremely important to keep your organisation covered in case of server failure. This is why we at Cloud Elemental developed our automated Self-healing solution, to save you hours of lethal downtime, whilst reducing your overhead costs by automating the detection and resolution of server issues without the need for a full support team.

It achieves this by following a preset, unique Playbook of scripts which recovers your specific infrastructure and applications when they fail. When failure is recognised, an alarm is triggered. The Self-healing process kicks in to check whether the event is planned – if not, then Self-healing will automatically work through the recovery procedure, sending notifications to your tech support team at every stage.

Now, let’s see this solution in action…

An online retailer who doesn’t employ a 24/7 tech support team may not have the capacity to handle a server failure that occurs out-of-hours. This will inevitably result in downtime all night, through to early morning, and potentially into the afternoon – depending on how long it takes the support team to not only start work, but to actually pinpoint and resolve the failure. This will cost the retailer thousands in lost commerce, alongside damaging their reputation amongst customers.

Cloud Elemental’s Self-healing solution is an excellent solution for the online retailer, as it runs off of a bespoke Playbook. This means that there is no need to wait for an experienced tech team to run the recovery process – as long as someone is briefed on how to push the Self-healing process, the resolution can begin.

Another common scenario where Self-healing saves the day relies on speed and efficiency. An energy trading company needs to ensure that their downtime is kept to a minimum, as even a single minute of downtime can result in nearly $400 worth of losses. Whilst minimising downtime is important to all companies, for others, such as our energy trader, downtime has the potential to cause irreversible financial damage to the business, as well as giving customers a reason to take their investments elsewhere.

Cloud Elemental’s Self-healing solution enables the energy trader to reduce downtime to an absolute minimum, due to its automated nature that allows for a rapid repair. By detecting the fault, alerting, resolving, and actually fixing the failure automatically (bar one manual push to deploy), Self-healing will save the trader hundreds of minutes of downtime, and potentially thousands in costs.

Cloud Elemental’s Self-healing is a fully customisable, bespoke automation that we can add to your existing Cloud architecture. For more information on how we can apply our solutions to your unique organisation, get in touch via the email button, or find us on LinkedIn, X, and Instagram.
