How Our AWS Well Architected Framework Review Works

Running workloads on AWS is rarely static. Architectures evolve, services expand, and best practices shift. What worked when you first launched a workload may not hold up against today’s demands.

That’s where the AWS Well Architected Framework Review (WAFR) comes in. It provides a structured way to measure your environment against six key pillars: operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimisation, and sustainability.

The Process

Step 1: Request through AWS Marketplace

Begin by visiting our AWS Marketplace listing and submitting a private offer request. This keeps procurement simple and ensures the service is aligned with your needs.

Step 2: Introductory Call

We set up a short call to understand your workload, challenges, and goals. During this conversation we frame the review against the six AWS Well Architected pillars, focusing on the ones that match your business needs most closely.

Step 3: Preparation

Together we agree the workload(s) to be reviewed, identify the right stakeholders, and collect the relevant documentation. Architecture diagrams, monitoring data, and security controls are typical examples. The more information available, the sharper and more valuable the review will be.

Step 4: The Review

Using the AWS Well Architected Tool, we walk through each of the six pillars in a structured way. The focus is on open discussion and practical assessment. We highlight strengths, identify high-risk issues, and call out opportunities for improvement.

Step 5: Findings and Roadmap

You receive a clear summary of risks and strengths, along with a prioritised roadmap. This roadmap is practical, written for both engineers and decision makers, and focused on actions that deliver measurable value.

Step 6: Post Review Support

A report alone doesn’t create change. We remain available to guide remediation, validate progress, and make sure improvements are embedded. This is about ensuring the review leads to outcomes rather than sitting on a shelf.

Best Practices We Recommend

  • Involve a mix of stakeholders, including security, operations, and finance. Each brings a different perspective on risk.

  • Gather data in advance. Metrics and documentation make the review faster and more accurate.

  • Repeat the process. A WAFR is not a one-off exercise. Running it annually or after major workload changes keeps you aligned with AWS best practices.

It’s a structured assessment of your AWS workloads against six best-practice pillars: operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, cost optimisation, and sustainability.

How long does a WAFR take?

Most reviews can be completed in a few days, depending on workload complexity and stakeholder availability.

Who should be involved?

We recommend technical leads, security stakeholders, and finance/operations representatives to ensure a balanced perspective.

A Well Architected Framework Review is more than a checklist – it uncovers weaknesses, prioritises fixes, and allows you to build confidence in your AWS environment. Through our Marketplace listing, the process is simple and predictable. Most importantly, it is led by engineers who focus on delivery.

For organisations looking to scale securely, control costs, or prepare for AI workloads, a WAFR provides the right foundation.
